The Board Game of Monopoly Has Changed With The Times

The game of Monopoly has been around since the early 1900s and has been played by a billion people according to Wikipedia. I don't ever remember a time when there wasn't a game in our home. When we were kids, we kept one set up in the dining area. There were 4 of us children and we loved to play together or at least that is the way I remember it.Today, there are many editions of the game and my grandson and I recently discovered the Electronic Banking Monopoly Edition which we have found to be a lot of fun. In this version, there isn't a banker with all the colored bills but rather each player has a debit card and all the transactions are handled on the battery operated Debit Card Machine. Don't forget to purchase the batteries to go with this as a gift.Yes, this game has come a long way! Enjoy playing and learn some new skills or hone old ones. A Family Who Plays Together, Stays Together!Playing Board Games teaches many lessons to children and to adults and is a great way to spend some quality time. A lot of good thinking and reasoning goes on during a good game of Monopoly. Also, there are usually some good lessons in social skills to go along with it. I am 65 years old and I still remember playing board games with friends and family growing up and I remember learning many valuable lessons.

In this day and age of all the electronic games, it is harder to get a child interested in a board game. I am a firm believer that playing board games with children is both educational and a great way to teach socialization and to bond relationships. If your family has a Board Game Night, you might want to consider this Electronic Banking Edition of the Monopoly Board Game. I highly recommend this game as a gift for children around 10 years of age up through Adults. I purchased one for my 11 yr old grandson and another one for my 31 yr old son.I don't like "change" but I have to tell you that I think this is my favorite edition. My grandson and I really enjoy it. In fact, this would be the game we would choose to take on a family trip for those rainy days or stay-in nights. I have enjoyed playing this game with my grandson and I think he is enjoying it, too. We have kept the game set up now for one week playing one game after another. It does seem to go much faster than the original version. This game is such an education not only for the Math Skills but Geography and Landmarks, as well! I highly recommend it. Honestly, I am ready to play another game right now. All this talking about it makes me want to call my grandson and get a new game started. It is that much fun.

It usually takes me awhile to adapt to change and I love the original Monopoly game but I have to admit that this version is loads more fun. I was really surprised and pleased that I liked it so much. I know my grandson was thrilled. It was actually very interesting to experience the difference. Each player receives a Debit Card with a 15 million dollar balance. You choose a Banker to handle all the transactions. My grandson and I decided to do our own transactions and eliminated the need for a Banker. At any time, you can insert your card to check your balance. The Banker Unit (Credit Card Machine) has a plus side and a minus side. If you owe a player for rent you can put your card in the minus side and the other player's card in the plus side and enter the amount. The unit will deduct from your account and add to the other player's account.Instead of Railroads, there are 4 Airports: JFK, ORD (O'Hare), ATL, and LAXIf you own all four of the airports, the rent is 2MUtilities are Internet Service Provider and Cell Phone Service ProviderSome of the properties include:Disney OrlandoWrigley FieldLas Vegas BlvdGolden Gate BridgeGrand Ole OpryWhite HouseFrench QuarterWaikiki BeachSouth BeachLiberty BellInstead of Boardwalk and Park Place, you have Fenway Park which cost 350K and Times Square which cost $500KYou receive 2 Million Dollars every time you pass GO!So you see, it is both educational and fun!

This may have actually been the game that our daughter played with when she was little. I really can't remember now. It seems that we always had Monopoly in our homes.Today, there are so many different editions of Monopoly. I have played Oceanopoly and it is also a lot of fun and very educational. I have played many, many games of the original version through my years but the new Electronic Banking Edition has to be my all time favorite.

What was your favorite Monopoly Game Token? - Let me know your favorite

My favorite was the Top Hat. I just liked the way it felt and the way it looked.Over the years, the standard Monopoly Game has had changes in the Monopoly Game Tokens and your answer to this question would depend on the years you played the game. Some have stayed the same and some have been replaced and some have been removed entirely. I found a very interesting history of the Monopoly Game Tokens on this site: About.com - Board Games - Click Here
